• Pick a location and route.
  • Find a nice outdoor area with a clear and defined path, no more than 3.5 miles. A place with nice scenery, like a park trail, is the perfect backdrop. Convenient to have a restroom and/or water fountain somewhere on your walk.

  • Set up a Meet-up or Facebook Page.
  • Pick a date, time, and location for your first Dance Walk (and let me know, I’ll add it here!) Post the info on your Meet-up and make an “Event” on your Facebook page. Invite friends and share the link widely to any interested organizations. Make sure to tell folks to come hands-free, and dress lightly.

  • Dance Walk!
  • Arrive 10 minutes early. Once everyone’s arrived (I wait 5-10 extra minutes) after start time, make a circle and do names. Have folks cue up their first song. Make sure it’s a good one—a surefire move-motivator. I tell folks: If a song comes up on your walk that’s not working for you, don’t linger. Next song! I say: Also, this is not a performance. Allow yourself to naturally warm up by tuning into the music. Most folks start in more of a solo space, and then open up after a few songs. Also: the group tends to accordion a bit--make sure to stay mindful if you’re ahead to slow down and if you’re behind to catch up. A water fountain break will help people stay grouped-up. Once you’ve started the Dance Walk, no more chatting!

  • Take pictures.
  • Everybody loves pictures of this crazy activity! Post pics to your Meet-up, Facebook, and Instagram page after the walk. Tag people if you have permission. Pick a date, time, and location for your first Dance Walk (and let me know, I’ll add it here!)

  • Meet at the end.
  • Share and de-brief the experience. Let folks know when the next Dance Walk is. Close it up! See you next time!
